may

May’s intentions were all about self-care. Guess what? I followed approximately one of them.

May intentions below:

1. See BFFL

2. Take a spa day

3. Make sure exercise is included in BFFL trip

So, yes, I did see my BFFL! Which was great. Otherwise – we tried to do 2 and 3, we really did. But the spa we planned to go to suddenly changed their hours a week before our trip and we got too busy drinking wine to take use of the ‘spa facilities’ – sauna & whirlpool – at our hotel in Banff. We also planned to take a yoga or spin class, but every day was so busy with friendship! We did walk at least 10k steps every day, including a light hike, so we weren’t total slobs at least.

As far as self-care in general goes – I purchased a dry brush and started using it. I also got a haircut, which is a form of self-care because I desperately needed it, and started dressing like “myself” again. I’ve felt the most “myself” I’ve felt in a long time this month, and that’s made me really glad. I have taken a lot of pressure off of myself in regards to my career, my home life, and starting a family and have felt significantly less stressed. I still have days where I freak out, but given May is the month my mother passed, it tends to make me feel more introspective, and I really feel like I sweat way less of the small stuff. I’ve also tracked my food and workouts for the most part, including a 40-mile bike race (YAY!), which has felt like self-care in itself as it makes me more thoughtful. So even though I didn’t stick to my intentions, I feel like, for the most part, I am generally and genuinely caring for myself.

June is “You Are What You Eat”, which is a fancy way to say DIET! But not going ON a diet, because that’s goofy. My overall June intentions I wrote at the beginning of the year are:

1. No take out (besides weekly work takeout. NOTE: I now don’t often go to the office with weekly work takeout so this is easier to avoid :D)

2. Eat out only 1x/week

3. Follow ‘clean eating’ rules – aim for 80/20

I wanted to expand it though, to a few more items.

EAT well

1. Avoid processed sugar

2. Do a 1-day juice cleanse

3. Eat breakfast every day (so simple but sometimes falls to the wayside)

TRY new things

1. 1-2 new workout classes (Firestarter @ Equinox)

2. 2 tasks I’ve never done before (needlepointing, something else)

3. 3 new recipes
MAKE connections
1. Call my grandmas
2. Reach out to at least 3 people I don’t often see or talk to
3. Invite couple friends to dinner that we rarely see
Excited to see what this month brings!
